PUBLIC SERVICE OFFICE STAFF UNDERGO TRAINING

The Lagos State Government has organised a three-day training programme for Staff on Grade Levels 01-12 in the Public Service Office, Office of the Head of Service.

In his address at the commencement of the training programme with the theme “Improving Productivity in the 21st Century Public Service”, the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said the programme was part of the outcome of the training held recently for retirees, which among others, advised that those in the active service should be given adequate attention and tutored accordingly on several ways of improving productivity in service.

The Head of Service, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mr. Samson Ajibade, reiterated that part of what came out of the training for the retirees was the need to intensify capacity building for those still in service to learn, unlearn and relearn.

He said, “This was why we came up with the training to be anchored by former Permanent Secretary and seasoned facilitators, who we know are capable, especially those that have passed through the system. They were part of the system and are still very much with us, they know and would teach you all that would make you a productive public servant in the 21st Century”.

Muri-Okunola, therefore, advised that the participants should make the three-day workshop/training programme participatory and interactive so that it can enhance their ability to identify, decipher challenges and counter them with the necessary response mechanisms in their official duties and responsibilities.

“Please endeavour to make the three-day training interactive and participatory. Listen very well and ensure you contribute meaningfully throughout the programme with the calibre of our facilitators today, in the person of Mr. Bashir Ademuyiwa Braimah, a former Permanent Secretary and Mr. Akeem Sarumi and Mrs. Amusa”, he said.

Mr. Braimah, one of the facilitators at the programme, noted that the training and re-training of public servants in Lagos State is geared towards imparting knowledge and understanding to the employees.

He maintained that adequate training for public servants will also add to their skills, increase their service delivery while improving their effectiveness and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.

Mrs. Adeniran Adesola, one of the participants at the workshop, appreciated the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to partake in the training, saying that it will improve her work performance and service delivery to the public.
