Lagos State Government says it would continue to appreciate and acknowledge the roles of labour unions in wealth creation, social harmony and economic progress as well as the contributions of retired top government functionaries towards the advancement and progress of the State.
The State Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Folasade Adesoye, disclosed this at the presentation of utility vehicles to the 16 Unions under the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council and the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS).
Adesoye noted that the presentation of the new utility vehicles was in fulfillment of the promises made to the recipients by the State Governor as well as the realization of their noble roles particularly in ensuring industrial peace and enriching the process of governance.
The Acting HoS said that the diverse experiences of members of a forum like ALARHOSPS, all of whom had held senior Public Service positions before, would enrich the process of governance in areas of policy formulation/development, Public Service Administration and service delivery.
She recalled that ALARHOSPS was inaugurated by the State Governor with a view to envisioning with the State Government the best ways and means of enhancing the quality of service delivery, improving Public Service structures and the quality of lives of the people as well as their environment for the benefit of all.
Adesoye, however, urged members of ALARHOSPS to continue to focus on how the association can help Government monitor and report on public opinions about Government’s policies and programmes.
“I have no doubts whatsoever that ALARHOSPS is indeed capable of achieving the purpose for which it was set up particularly since the contributions and accomplishments of the members have helped to position Lagos State Public Service as the best in Africa,” she averred.
The HoS noted that the existing industrial peace in the State has further helped to cement a peaceful government-labour cooperation and collaboration stressing that workers should in return reciprocate government’s gesture by renewing their dedication and commitment to duty through improved service delivery to the citizenry.
