LAGOS HOS COMMENDS WORKERS’ LOYALTY AS PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK BEGINS 


The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has kicked off the State’s Public Service Week Celebrations with commendations for the unalloyed service and loyalty of the workers of the State Government.


The week-long activities, according to the Head of Service, are meant to among other things appreciate public servants and reward the outstanding officers among them, adding that the public service sector remains the bedrock of a prosperous society. 

He said: “The 23rd June of every year has been a notable day to celebrate and appreciate Public Servants worldwide and Lagos cannot be left out.

The Public Service sector plays a vital role in shaping the foundation of our society. It is through the selfless efforts of Public Servants that the Society has been able to enjoy the many benefits and services that improve lives and foster a thriving community”.


He reiterated that, from healthcare to education, infrastructure to public safety, environmental protection to social welfare, the tireless work of Public Servants has kept society functioning effectively and efficiently.


Reeling out activities earmarked for the week-long events, Muri-Okunola commended the workers for their assiduous services to the state over the years.


He said,  “The choice of the theme of this year’s celebration: “Transforming our Service, Enriching Your Experience” is aimed at celebrating the commitment, professionalism, and dedication demonstrated by our Public Servants. Your unwavering determination to serve the public interest and uphold the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability deserves the utmost respect and admiration. 

Maintaining that Civil Servants are the driving force behind the development and progress of the State, the HOS revealed that the week-long activities will begin officially on Friday, July 7, with a free health screening exercise for public servants including blood pressure test, cervical/breast screening at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, followed by a special Jumu’ah Service at the Lagos State Community Central Mosque, Alausa-Ikeja.


Muri-Okunola said a walk for fitness by public servants will take place on Saturday while an interdenominational Thanksgiving  Service will hold on Sunday at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa. He added that part of the activities for the week’s celebration includes donations to orphanage/charity homes on Monday.


He maintained that the weeklong activities continue with the Long Service Merit Award Ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, 11th July at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium with a Lecture holding on the same day with the theme: “Building and Sustaining Digitised Public Service”. 

The events will be rounded off with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu having lunch with selected outstanding officers.
