LAGOS COMMITTED TO PROFESSIONALISM OF ADMINISTRATIVE / HUMAN RESOURCE CADRE
… As CIPM Inducts 143 New Members
The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, has reiterated the commitment of the State Government to ensure the professionalisation of its Administrative/Human Resource Cadre.
Muri-Okunola stated this on Thursday at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, during the induction ceremony of 143 members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), which serves as the umbrella body for professional Human Resource Practitioners in Nigeria. The theme for the induction ceremony was; “Now That You Are Chartered: Building Professional Competencies for Excellence and Impact”.
The HOS, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos Lands Bureau, Mr. Bode Agoro, said the induction ceremony was a testimonial to the professionalisation of all Administrative and Human Resource officers in the Lagos Civil Service.
He maintained that a total of 143 members who were being inducted are certified members of CIPM, Alausa Chapter, comprising 105 Associates and 38 full members, having gone through the process of pre-qualification induction training, experiential interviews and the master class, culminating successfully in the induction ceremony.
“This is indeed a rare feat by the Institute and its members, which gives credence to the high premium the state and its workforce place on professionalism and maintaining the standard of excellence in Lagos State”, Muri-Okunola said.
He also emphasised that the theme of the 51st Induction Ceremony speaks directly to the core of the State Government’s drive for a 21st Century Public Service to energise the many laudable projects towards achieving the agenda of a Greater Lagos Rising, saying “Without any doubt, excellent and impactful service delivery is a function of strong professional competence to propel the various government institutions”.
“The theme conveys in clear terms to the inductees the importance of being certified: it speaks to the reasoning that acquiring an ACIPM or MICPM is not an end itself but a means to ensuring the preservation and sustainability of the culture of excellence that Lagos State is synonymous with. It also underscores the need to display at all times your best in conduct, appearance and transactions as the Professional Admin/HR Officer you have now become”, HOS added.
He congratulated the leadership of CIPM for maintaining its high standards and expanding its frontiers for international collaboration towards better service delivery.
Also speaking at the event, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the CIPM, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, FCIPM, said the ceremony was symbolic and a testimonial to the professionalisation of the Admin/Human Resource Cadre, adding that it is a thorough profession, which is a stepping stone to something greater in life.
Earlier, in his presentation on the theme of the event, the Group Manager/Senior HR Business Partner, Dangote Cement Plc, Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, explained that a successful global HR professional must of a necessity, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
