EXHIBIT ADMINISTRATIVE CAPABILITY WITH A DIFFERENCE – LAGOS HOS TASKS ADMINISTRATORS

The Acting Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adesoye has tasked the newly appointed Heads of Administration of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state to take up their responsibilities with dedication, commitment and determination in order to make a positive administrative difference.

Speaking at the opening session of a three-day retreat for the new administrators in Lagos, Adesoye said that their appointments is a testimony to the trust and confidence of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in their ability to discharge their duties and responsibilities beyond reasonable doubt.

She said, “You must be constantly and continuously mindful of th e fact that the quantum and quality of public service delivery by Government and the overall perception of the quality of governance by citizens would be directly determined by the quality of administration and standard of service delivery at the local government level”.

Adesoye advised the participants to improve their skills and competencies in relations to the modern age technology through the application of information and communication techniques that would help ‘re-tool, re- kit, re-boot and re-energize’ their performances.

While charging the administrators on exemplary leadership style and team-building, the HOS also challenged them to possess the charisma of an active interrogator of the future in addition to being a problem solver.

On his part, the Chairman of Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Babatunde Rotinwa reiterated the need for the new heads of administration to always be mindful of the role of local government in bringing government closer to the people at the grass roots so as not to deviate from that noble intention.

“Your roles in the overall career of staff, planning, organizing, and implementing administrative systems cannot be overemphasized. As key drivers of several reforms, the expectation of the state government from you is very high, hence the need for you to be abreast of happenings in the state and beyond”, the Chairman restated.

He added that administrators at the grass-root level are expected to provide efficient-based uniformity in their recruitment polices by making sure that the workforce are adequately trained and their capacities developed.

“You should eschew restrictive disposition to acquisition of modern day innovations. Don’t be restrictive to the routine of doing the same thing every time, always go out of your comfort zones and dont allow the present place you work restrict or limit your interest to embrace new opportunities”, he stated.

Rotinwa urged the participants to re-double their efforts and also key into the revenue generation drive of the state by extending same to their various local government and local council development areas.

The Permanent Secretary in the Office of Local Government Establishments Training and pensions, Mr. Oluwatoyin Onisarotu, in his remark, reminded participants of the need to take very good care of their health, saying that their health status is a great determinant in the overall discharge of their duties.

While urging them to always go for regular medical check-ups to a ascertain their health status, Onisarotu emphasized that “It is only when you are healthy that you will perform optimally and achieve results which will benefit your area of jurisdiction and the entire citizens of Lagos State”.
