Lagos State Government has donated gifts and food items to various Homes, Orphanages and Charity Organisations across the state as part of activities marking the Year 2023 Public Service Week.
According to the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the gesture is a way of identifying with the children, less privileged, homes, orphanages and charity organisations during this celebration of the Public Service Week by all public servants in the State.
The HoS, who monitored the presentation of the various household items, food, drinks and cash donations to the representatives of the beneficiaries on Monday, at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, commended all the members of the presentation committee, headed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Oke-Osanyintolu, for their commitment, drive and laudable efforts toward the success of the presentation exercise.
Muri-Okunola maintained that the donation was done by the public servants in all the MDAs. He expressed appreciation to every single individual that has contributed items as well as cash donations so as to support the needs of the Homes and make the presentation a huge success this year.
He attested that the beneficiary homes and orphanages were six in number last year, but said the number was increased to seven this year due to benevolence and the large heart of the public servants, which was quite impressive and appreciated.
“Let me use this great opportunity to, first of all, applaud the committee saddled with the planning of the presentation. As you can see, all the items donated weren’t from the government but were by the public servants to touch all homes, orphanages and charity organisations. This is quite impressive. I thank every single individual that has contributed one thing or the other to make this presentation possible today”, Muri-Okunola maintained.
The founder of Lady Atinuke Memorial Home (Special Needs) Badagry, Mrs. Elsie Rose Akande commended Lagos State Government, particularly the civil servants for deeming it fit to lend a hand of benevolence to the homes, adding that the gesture of government is an act of love and kindness that would long be remembered and appreciated by the beneficiaries
Also, the Principal, Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, Mr. Iyapo Basiru, just like other beneficiaries expressed his appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the civil servants for the kind gesture.
